In the world of entertainment, relevance and connection with the audience is of tantamount importance. Moreover, with a catalog of original and acquired shows and movies as vast as Netflix, resonance with the fans is all that matters. Among its many in-house productions, the streaming giant’s Stranger Things commands a staggering fan base thanks to its characters striking a chord. While the show’s titular leads such as Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven keep the engine running, it is those touching side-characters such as the recent Eddie Munson who add the necessary refinements.

The fan-favorite on-screen musician is about to star in his own show as he becomes the latest to give fans a respite from the dry spell of new content.

In recent weeks, the freshest content from the Hawkins gang came in the form of a prequel stage play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow. Weeks after the London-aired show provided somewhat of a connection to the forth-coming season five, it is set to be succeeded by a book. The streamer announced the release of an extract from Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus. A prequel book set in 1984, two years before the events of the show’s season four details Munson’s life.

The excerpt titled “Munson Magic” provides a brief insight into the book. Taking on the musician’s backstory, it will follow him chasing his aspirations while tackling his father’s dubious schemes. It also leaves him with an arc set for a heist that lands him straight as fans see in the show. Coinciding with a Halloween release, the book traces another backstory for the Hawkins as the gang prepares to face the all-evil in Vecna with season five’s landfall.

Despite a WGA green light, the show still reels under a scathing delay. Thus, the question on every fan’s mind is whether season five would ever see the light of the day.

Months behind schedule, season five of the show faces indefinite delays

Season four of Stranger Things set the stage for Vecna’s return and climactic battle with Brown’s Eleven and the rest of the cast. Additionally, just as Munson sacrificed his life in the previous season, a few lead deaths may also be on the tow. However, owing to the relentless halt in production as of yet, it remains to be seen if the story is cut short or set to deviate to accommodate the SAG-AFTRA delays even after Shawn Levy’s “cinematic storytelling” tease.

In the scarcity of actors returning to the set, the writers are the only hands at the workplace. In a recent update, they released a promising outlook for new content. However, there has still been no breakthrough with a release date as of yet. Thus, by all realistic means and factors, it could well be late 2024 or probably 2025 by the time season five is ready to release.
