Netflix Brings Back Rob Lowe to Work With His Son in a New Comedy Series ‘Unstable’

Netflix is always paying attention to the internet to find materials to add to its content. And now it is the hilarious Instagram exchanges between Rob Lowe and John Owen that will be getting a comedy series Unstable. The show will mark the second collaboration between Rob and John. Rob Lowe’s son John Owen Lowe often trolls him on social media. And the two are now turning the experience into a Netflix comedy series. Unstable, which was co-created by the Lowes and Santa Clarita Diet creator Victor Fresco, has been ordered by the streamer.

The sitcom stars John Owen Lowe as a socially awkward son who goes to work for his immensely rich, outrageously eccentric father, Rob Lowe, in order to save him from disgrace. The trio (Rob, John, and Victor) will serve as executive producers for the show, which Netflix will produce from its own studio.

Rob Lowe is presently acting in and producing Season 3 of the 9-1-1 spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star.

The minds behind the show

John Owen Lowe is a writer, producer, and actor who co-starred with his father in the Fox legal comedy, The Grinder and in the Netflix feature, Holiday In The Wild with Kristin Davis.

He’s also worked as a story editor on 9-1-1: Lone Star. John just wrapped production on Rory Karpf’s independent movie Grace Point.

Fresco is presently producing a comedy series on former First Daughter Alice Roosevelt Longworth for HBO Max. He was the writer, showrunner, and executive producer of Netflix’s zom-com Santa Clarita Diet.

His body of work includes writing for sitcoms like My Name Is Earl and Mad About You as well as producing Better Off Ted and Andy Richter Controls the Universe.

“We are really happy to be working with Victor, Rob, and John Owen,” Netflix Head of Comedy Tracey Pakosta said in a statement.
