Netflix Bides for a Royal Documentary Away From Sussexes as Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett Tie the Knot
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have remained at the center of royal attention, even though they stepped down as working royals nearly four years ago. Their move did not win universal support, but it certainly attracted as much, if not more, scrutiny as the controversies surrounding them. Despite their lives becoming tabloid fodder, Netflix showcased a distinct perspective with their documentary on the Sussexes. While this documentary holds the record for the largest debut for a Netflix doc, the streaming platform is now gearing up to compete with another royal-focused film featuring Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett.

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway's wedding to Durek Verrett on Saturday deviated from the traditional royal style, lacking the typical castle embellishments, yet its impact was equally significant. The three-day celebration kicked off on Thursday with welcome drinks, a party cruise on the Geirangerfjord, and a pre-wedding salsa party. Despite the couple’s strict social media ban, Hello! Magazine provided exclusive coverage of the newlyweds, and Netflix recently announced that a documentary about the royals is in development.
The production, which tracks their love story, currently lacks a title and will be directed by Rebecca Chaiklin as per reports from The New York Times. A crew reportedly spent over a year with Princess Märtha Louise and Mr. Verrett as they prepared for their wedding. While Netflix has previously struck gold with Harry & Meghan, this time they have another fairytale wedding to showcase. This was the main reason the Norwegian media had limited access to their wedding, unlike Hello! Magazine and Netflix.
As Netflix anticipates a big payoff from this royal documentary, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix deal recently faced an unexpected setback.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s troubles appear far from over, with their recent trips to Nigeria and Colombia seeming just the beginning of their challenges. The Sussexes are now encountering issues with their Netflix project, as the streaming service has reportedly grown “fed up” with their work, according to royal biographer Angela Levi. Levi recently informed GB News that Netflix is no longer “keen on” their project, suggesting the royals “have completely messed up.”
Reports indicate that the main problem stemmed from sound issues with the cameras filming their shows. Sources suggest that Markle’s desire to control the narrative also contributed to the mishap. This incident reportedly increased Netflix’s frustration, putting the lucrative deal with the royals in jeopardy. Thus, while the ex-royals' journey faces setbacks on the streaming platform, Netflix appears to be seeking compensation elsewhere.
