NC-17 Rated Marilyn Monroe Biopic, ‘Blonde’ Starring Ana de Armas Leads Netflix Roster to Venice
Since Cannes put a condition that would require the streamer to release the movies in the French theaters first before bowing on the streamer 15 months later, Venice has become the go-to film festival for Netflix to launch their Oscar hopefuls. And this year, Spanish actress Ana De Armas’ movie Blonde is leading the pack of Netflix original movies.
Blonde and three other Netflix movies to premiere at the Venice Film Festival
Apart from Andrew Dominik’s movie, Noah Baumbach’s White House, Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, and Athena are also in the mix. The White House stars Greta Gerwig, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Adam Smith and is based on Don DeLillo’s novel of the same name. Alejandro G. Inarritu’s False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, will tackle the existential crisis of a Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker. Lastly, Romain Gavras’ Athena is the brainchild of Ladj Ly (Les Miserables).

In the mix are also some hot titles from other production houses. There is Timothee Chalamet’s Bones and All, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh’s Don’t Worry Darling, and Julia Roberts and George Clooney’s Ticket to Paradise. Floren Seller’s The Son and Cate Blanchett’s Tar are completing the list.
Netflix’s first-ever only adults feature film

Last year, Venice launched Benedict Cumberbatch‘s The Power of the Dog which went on to win the Director’s award at the Oscars. Out of the four movies, it is Dominik’s movie on the late legend that has generated the most hype. It is the first movie from the company that received an NC-17 rating. Ana De Armas will essay the role of the Hollywood diva Marilyn Monroe and explore her tragic life story.

Apart from Blonde, Armas is also a part of the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man on Netflix. The ambitious project from the Russo brothers reunites the duo with Chris Evans. Also, starring in the movie is Hollywood’s heartthrob, Ryan Gosling and Dhanush.
