Nathalie Emmanuel Talks About Similarities With Meghan Markle and Shades the Royal Family
In 2019, Mindy Kaling created a brilliant romantic comedy titled Four Weddings and a Funeral, taking inspiration from the Richard Curtis masterpiece. The flick starred none other than the Game of Thrones actress and Meghan Markle lookalike Nathalie Emmanuel. She played the character of Maya in the series who, just like the actress, also has many similarities with the Duchess of Sussex. Maya is a woman of color who is determined to make it big in the male-dominated world.

Therefore, she moves to London to find better opportunities. While Maya may have only a few similarities, Emmanuel has almost identical features to that of the former senior royal. Under any picture that the actress posts of herself, a majority of the comments are “OMG! You look like Meghan Markle,” which is why much like the Suits alum, with her Netflix documentary, the actress decided to take the reins in her own hands in 2019.
Nathalie Emmanuel takes a major dig at the Royal family
Considering that the show is created by Mindy Kaling, we can all expect there to be some hilarious calling out of patriarchy. Or, in this case, hierarchy and racism.
In the series, Nathalie’s character, Maya, jokes about applying to Markle’s decoy but got rejected because “the royal family hit their diversity quota.” It is one of the best lines from the show, not just because of the subtle shade but also because Emmanuel’s character acknowledges that she looks like Meghan Markle.
Does Meghan Markle know she has a look-alike?
Back in simpler times when Meghan Markle was a Suits actress and not the force that broke the Royal family, as Twitter likes to call her, the actress also referenced Nathalie Emmanuel. In one of the episodes, Markle’s character, Rachel Zane, says, “Apparently I look like Khaleesi’s translator or something.” Emmanuel is famous for her role in Game of Thrones.

However, Emmanuel has heard the Meghan Markle comparison far too many times and especially expressed her frustration with people tagging her in photos of random bi-racial women in 2017. While the actress did see similarities before, she now fails to see them.

And by ad-libbing a part where she acknowledges the fact that she looks like Markle, Emmanuel was taking control. The actress said in a Glamour magazine interview “For me, having my own control over that was important because I hear [that I look like her] all the time.” Now that Markle is not a senior member of the Royal family, fans are hoping the two of them can play sisters in a project.
