Jonathan Bailey on wardrobe malfunction

You have to accept one thing for sure. The grandeur of Bridgerton is huge. It surely takes us to the regency era, the old London, where the women and men of the social elite class have to follow strict rules to be a part of the community. One rule is to dress according to the occasion. And you can’t rule out that women of the elite class of that time had to give more effort to look presentable. But don’t think men don’t have to do anything. How the men have to manage with their clothing, Jonathan Bailey, gave us a full explanation during the pre-release press conference.

For a scene in season 2, where Anthony is indulging in fencing bouts with his brothers, Bailey, Luke Thompson, and Luke Newton were donning plimsolls. The Bridgerton actors were not the most comfortable in the costume, to say the least.

“As men, we’re not going to complain about restrictive clothing when we’re sat with the women and their corsets. But the fencing outfits were quite tight in various different places and we were wearing plimsolls on quite a dewy morning on the grass.”

All was good during the shoot until the last lunge towards Benedict Bridgerton. “My crotch ripped and it’s all on camera,” he said, embarrassed, just thinking of it. He explained it was one of the most embarrassing moments of his life. To make it worse, they were filming the sequence with four cameras from four different angles. It’s not surprise that he ended up crying out loud, “This is just so embarrassing!”

Having watched the sequence in Bridgerton season 2 episode 2, we can surely testify that we were too enraptured by Anthony to notice any rips.
