Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds is mainly known for his eccentric lead role in the Deadpool franchise, although he is a versatile actor who has portrayed a wide range of characters and voice roles too. The 45-year-old star voiced the character of Guy in the animated comedy The Croods: A New Age in 2020. He also starred as the voice of Pikachu, the most beloved cartoon character in the 2019 mystery film Detective Pikachu. Directed by Rob Letterman, this video game adaptation became the second highest-grossing movie earning $433 million worldwide. In a recent interview, Ryan picked one actor who could have nailed his Detective Pikachu role. But who is it?

Ryan Reynolds thinks this celebrity would be an amazing replacement for him in Detective Pikachu

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney recently sat down with BuzzFeed to celebrate the successful ending of Wrexham season 1. In the famous Puppy Interview, Wrexham co-owners played the quiz where they answered many questions. 

During the session, BuzzFeed asked, “Which two characters from your previous shows or movies you would love to see meet each other?” In response to the question, Rob said he would like to see Deadpool and Frank Reynolds meet. Whereas Ryan suggested Frank Reynolds played by Danny DeVito and Detective Pikachu.

After giving a thought to it, the Green Lantern star stated: “DeVito would’ve made a good Detective Pikachu.” Rob agreed saying “Yeah, maybe better than you” to which Reynolds replied “Much better“. This is not the first DeVito’s name has been raised in this voiceover conversation, since previously, the creators did test his voice for Pikachu before deciding on Ryan Reynolds.

While many fans did want Danny DeVito to be the voice of this electric gumshoe, we can’t deny that the voice of Free Guy star worked perfectly for Detective Pikachu. Other featured celebrities in the movie include Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Omar Chaparro, Suki Waterhouse, Chris Geere, Ken Watanabe and Bill Nighy.
