‘Mindhunter’ Season 3 Would See Bill and Holden in Hollywood, If It Ever Reaches Our Screens
Mindhunter, a Netflix original series from the famed filmmaker, David Fincher first premiered in 2017. After it returned for a second run in 2019, fans had hoped for a Mindhunter season 3. But it seems Netflix has abandoned the show after it was on hold for a long period of time. Starring Holt McCallany and Jonathan Groff, the series followed two FBI criminal profilers working on the cases of serial killers.

Director Andre Dominik is as unhappy with letting the show go as the viewers. In a recent interview, he revealed that they had planned to bring the duo out of their basement and get them to Hollywood.

“So one of them was going to be hooking up with Jonathan Demme and the other one was going to be hooking up with Michael Mann. And it was all going to be about profiling making it into the sort of zeitgeist, the public consciousness,” he disclosed. Apparently, it was the season even the crew was waiting to do. Afterall, they started as a basement startup and going to Hollywood would have been spreading the word out there.
With such excitement, why are the chances of season 3 so low?

In 2020 came the shocking news that the cast and crew were released from their contracts. But fans were still holding on to their hopes until Fincher disclosed that he was exhausted after two seasons. He also shed some light on the budget constraints.
‘Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show. We talked about “Finish Mank and then see how you feel,” but I honestly don’t think we’re going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic about dollars have to equal eyeballs.”
Unfortunately, despite acquiring critical acclaim, Mindhunter just wasn’t as popular as Stranger Things. Neither did it pick up Emmys like The Crown. Moreover, Netflix’s loss has prompted it to reduce its expenses. It probably cannot afford another season.
