The supernatural genre got a significant boost when the horror comedy Wednesday premiered on Netflix on November 23, 2022. During the first three weeks, the show rose to the top of the streaming service’s ratings. Following a highly successful first season, the extension of the Jenna Ortega-starring series for a second season thrilled fans. However, the strikes that took over the streets of Hollywood dampened the show’s excitement.

Now another news regarding Wednesday season 2 has added to the dismay of the fans.

According to an MGM representative as reported by Deadline (via Independent), Thora Birch has left the show and returned to the United States, owing to a family emergency. While the show’s filming has been hampered for some time because of strikes, it is believed that the Ghost World actress has “finished a bulk” of her sequences. This indicates that her sequences will be included in the series. However, if things do not go as planned, the producers will have to add another actress to play her role.

The future of Birch’s role in the horror comedy may be uncertain for the time being, given that nothing can be assumed until the strikes are over. However, all the other principal cast members are confirmed to be reprising their roles. This includes Jenna Ortega as the titular Wednesday Adams, and Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán will play the roles of her parents, Morticia and Gomez Adam, respectively. Furthermore, the plot of the series has been concealed from the public’s view.

In September, it was revealed that Percy Hynes White, who plays Xavier Thorpe in the horror comedy series, would be “written out” of the script owing to sexual misconduct allegations. The streaming service has neither confirmed nor disputed his resignation from the show. Meanwhile, the actor’s rumored exit from the show might also be linked to comments made by Jenna Ortega.

In June 2023, Jenna Ortega participated in Variety’s Actors on Actors series, where she discussed her present and prospective projects. During the conversation, Ortega said that Wednesday, season 2, will delve a little deeper into the horror component. She also stated that the supernatural horror comedy will not have a “love interest” in the following season. In season 1 of the show, Hynes White’s Xavier Thorpe and Hunter Doohan’s Tyler Gaplin formed a love triangle with Ortega’s Wednesday.
