In the fourth episode of Harry & Meghan, the Duke and Duchess reflected on the negative press for Meghan Markle. The couple and their friends talked in depth about why the royal members and the media started projecting the former American actress as a villain just months after the royal wedding. The Sussexes believe that it was their first royal tour to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji that shifted things in the United Kingdom.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were showered with unprecedented love and adulation during their first tour to Australia. The couple made it to all the headlines in a positive way, just like Princess Diana did after her Australia tour in 1983. However, as per the Duke, a lot of people in the Palace could not digest Markle’s popularity. He took a subtle dig at his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton for the same.

Prince Harry blames his brother for negative coverage of Meghan Markle

In an explosive claim in the fourth episode, Prince Harry revealed how Meghan Markle had outshined all the senior members within months of her entry into the family. The media covered the former American actress on the front page, sidelining even the late Queen. They showed snippets of Markle winning the polls for being the best royal in 2018. Thus, the royal prince claimed that Prince William and Kate Middleton started seeing his wife as a potential threat to their popularity and image. 

“The issue is when someone who is marrying in, who should be a supporting act, is then stealing the limelight, or doing the job better than the person who was born to do this, that upsets people. It shifts the balance,” Prince Harry said to the Netflix camera.

He further mentioned that the royal family members believe that they exist only by being on the front page. As per the Duke, it was not the fault of Markle that she was being put on the front page. It was the media who decided whom to cover. However, this started creating problems in the royal family and then started the plantation of fake negative stories surrounding the Duchess.
