Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast is back with a new episode following a sabbatical of almost a month. The Duchess of Sussex paused the podcast following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 08. Spotify released an official statement regarding not releasing any new episode during the official mourning period for the Queen. In the first three episodes, Meghan Markle hosted the likes of Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, and Mindy Kaling.

The podcast which aims at debunking stereotypes about women welcomed Margaret Cho and Lisa Ling in episode four. Though people have mixed reviews about the podcast, it has been gaining a lot of viewership. Just two days after the release of the first episode featuring Serena Williams, the show topped the charts in the United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Meghan Markle discusses the Asian continent

The episode named The Demystification of Dragon Lady was largely about the three women discussing the trope Dragon Lady. Meghan Markle seemed miffed about the wrong portrayal of Asian Women on the silver screen. She called out movies like Austin Powers and Kill Bill for over-sexualizing Asian Women. 

“This toxic stereotyping of women of Asian descent… this doesn’t just end once the credits roll,” Meghan said in the podcast. Margaret Cho also echoed the same sentiments as she added that the English film fraternity has stereotyped Asian women as beautiful but evil. She believes that such thoughts occur from the fantasy of Orientalism.

 Elaborating on her struggles, Cho added that the less Asian representation often made her feel left out in the industry. She never felt visible or there is no sense of belonging. Lisa Ling also shared her struggles, stating that she could never think of going into films as there was a very lesser number of people like her. The 49-year-old thought of journalism as her only option because apart from Connie Chung, no one looked even remotely like Ling on TV.
