The past month has been absolutely bonkers in terms of mystery thrillers released on Netflix. The end of December saw the release of the highly anticipated Knives Out mystery sequel titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery starring Daniel Craig and not a week into the new year, The Pale Blue Eye starring Christian Bale accompanied by none other than Edgar Allen Poe are here to present a medieval mystery that will twist your brains. Netflix has established excellence in the mystery thriller community with exuberant projects such as Enola Holmes, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Shimmer Lake, and countless others.

And Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery only added to the impressive catalog. The flick starring Daniel Craig once again follows Benoit Blanc. However, this time the detective is experiencing a lack of mind-twisting cases post-pandemic when one comes knocking right at his door. The layered and enigmatic characters, pop culture symbolism (the movie has a giant mural of Kanye West), and brilliant storytelling gave the movie an easy slide to #1 on Netflix.

The perfect watch for a family get-together the flick with its timely release on Christmas garnered 209 million viewing hours in just a matter of ten days.  With the bars set so high, not many were expecting the movie to leave the spot anytime soon. That is until the release of Christian Bale’s starrer The Pale Blue Eye.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery loses its crown to The Pale Blue Eyes?

Masterfully written and directed by Scott Cooper, The Pale Blue Eye is the tale of another well-known detective named Louis Bayard. When a cadet at the United States Military Academy is found hanging with his heart carved out, Bayard along with young cadet Edgar Allen Poe sets out to find the culprit in the medieval mystery drama.

Despite being a contrast to each other visually, both movies unite for their top-notch mystery. And of course, their determination to be #1 on Netflix. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery hit the ball out of the park by securing a spot in the All-Time Top 10 Movies list on Netflix. Furthermore, it remains #1 on Netflix globally.

The Pale Blue Eye has already dethroned the Knives Out sequel in many countries. The hoards of viewers have flocked in to taste the deliciously wrapped mystery with a star-studded cast. All of it has made it the perfect contender for Glass Onion. However, the flick is yet to find a spot on the Netflix all-time list.
