Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris Reverberate One Common Word as They Bid Farewell to Grace and Frankie
After 7 long seasons over a span of 8 years, Grace and Frankie has finally come to an end. This show brought to viewers a whole new perspective on old age. Old people aren’t always boring and tired of life as one might expect. But, they aren’t entirely sorted either. From realizing that the cost of prescription drugs is a lot to take on, to seeing an old woman come out as bisexual, Grace and Frankie has stayed unconventional in the best possible way. Now that the show is nearing its end, here’s what the show’s co-creators Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris had to say.
Hope, manifesting itself across all characters of Grace and Frankie
When we spoke about the end of Grace and Frankie, a Netflix Original surrounding the lives of old people, one might assume that it is a happy ending that we’re talking about. And yes, the characters, in true Grace and Frankie fashion, receive the happiest and most befitting endings, but it is not an “end“, per se.

The one word that both the writers of the Netflix series keep repeating is “hope.” When asked about the show’s legacy, Marta Kauffman only said, “as for the legacy, my hope is that, for the people who watched, we reminded them that there’s always hope.” Even Howard Morris assented to this, adding “it’s the idea of having hope and the idea that you can start your life over at any point. That resonates through the whole series.”
We also see the word hope manifesting itself across all characters of the show, especially the protagonists. Initially, the two women could only hope to survive the dissolution of their respective marriages. But, over the course of time, we see a different version of hope in an entirely different version of the characters as both the women find a new life for themselves and are more content than ever.
