A prominent #1 on Netflix, $1. 794 billion hours viewed by August 2022 and a cinematic phenomenon that has permanently altered the brain chemistry of its audience- Stranger Things Season 4 is engraved in the audience’s memory. The fourth season of the show did more than just progress the plot. It thrived on its high-on-the-90s vibe, the madness of the upside down, and more importantly, the horror of Vecna.

While which season of Stranger Things is the best will forever be a subject of debate, that Vecna is a personification of our worst dreams is not. From making Millie Bobby Brown break into tears to bringing the upside down to the viewers’ stomachs, Vecna’s presence was an assault on the senses. But despite the season being a culmination of our worst nightmares and some wholesome moments, there is one scene that is a cut above the rest. And it has Sadie Sink at the helm of affairs.

Season 4 consisted of nine episodes, each proving to be as spectacular as the other. But Episode 4, despite its almost two-hour-long runtime, is a spectacle packed with innumerable elements. One of which is still being raved about as the fans celebrate the one-year anniversary of Stranger Things Season 4. The scene in question is Max Mayfield’s narrow escape from Vecna as Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ played for extra dynamic and of course, proverbial context.

There are layers to why this scene will never cease to marvel. Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield first makes sure to rip our hearts as she gives her friends and family farewell letters. And then, as Vecna has her in a chokehold, there is a blast from the past featuring all the wonderful moments she has shared with everyone.

The sequence is intensified to the nines as “I’d be runnin’ up that road, Be runnin’ up that hill” plays while Max runs towards the portal. And much like how our heartbeats seemed less while experiencing the scene, fans are falling short on compliments for the scene.

Fans are still in awe of the Stranger Things Season 4 scene featuring Sadie Sink

On the 27th of May last year, fans celebrated the premiere of Stranger Things Season 4. This included the introduction of Eddie Munson, among other highlights. And as the clock points one year since release, fans of the series are in the feels, to say the least. But despite the numerous elements that it entailed, Sadie Sink’s escape sequence from Vecna has emerged as a clear winner even after one year.

Many believe that while the show had been popular since its release in 2016, this particular scene made it a part of the elite club that consisted of Breaking Bad, among others.

The scene was even featured in the promotional clips for Season 4, and at that point in time the Stranger Things fandom lived in a fairytale world unaware of the disaster that Vecna was about to cause. While the writing takes the scene from nadir to pinnacle, it is Sadie Sink’s performance that breaks the glass ceiling.
