While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been making headlines because of various reasons, did you know the Duke had made a promise to his then-girlfriend on their third date? Well, he revealed he has been keeping it since. What was the promise? How is the Duke still honoring it?

The couple met in 2016 first virtually and then the Prince’s childhood friend introduced him to Meghan Markle. The Sussexes announced their engagement in 2017 following a grand wedding in 2018. However, in January 2020, they left the Royal Family to get settled in the USA. Recently, the Duke published his memoir Spare. In the book, he mentioned a romantic detail about the promise that he made and has been keeping since.

Prince Harry is a man of his words!

While his memoir, Spare, is receiving mixed reviews, it certainly broke selling records on the first day of its launch. As The Daily Record pointed out, Prince Harry made a promise to Meghan Markle on their third date when they were in Botswana, Africa. Well, when the couple started dating, they only got little time to spend with each other because of their busy schedules. However, as soon as they found some time to spare, the Duke took Markle on a five-day vacation.

Despite being an English man, the country always fascinated the Duke. He even spent a lot of time there, after his mother, Princess Diana, passed away. Their trip included a safari ride, relaxing, and a campfire with trying a lot of cocktails. While the time in the woods gave them an opportunity to know one another deeply, it made the Duke of Sussex say this to his then-girlfriend, “Trust me, I’ll keep you safe.”

While they were in their tent, an elephant surrounded them. After a few moments, their tent shook because of the roars from the lions. As the former American actress asked him if they were going to be okay, the Duke made this promise to her. He has mentioned all these details in his memoir as well. Repeating the promise throughout the page several times, he admitted, he has been keeping his word ever since.
