The finale of season 3 of the show bid a heroic send-off to the 40-year-old actor, as promised by the showrunner. From getting injured to losing Ciri, the White Wolf suffered a great deal in the third season. There was another promise from the showrunner, Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich, about the season being closer to the books. As season 3 dropped on Netflix, fans debated if the plot was lore accurate or merely heartbreaking.

Vilgefortz took the fake Ciri to Emhyr with Fringilla having her own agenda against Nilfgaard, and Francesca finding the truth about the death of her child.
Season 3 of the Netflix Original showcased these events, with a promise of these events being closer to the original books. There were already talks about the show deviating from the original books. Therefore, amidst the departure of the fan-favorite actor, fans find it difficult to see Cavill go like this.
