27th of July was the day when fans saw Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia for the last time. Finally, the British actor left The Witcher to hand over the swords to Liam Hemsworth. The finale of season 3 of the show bid a heroic send-off to the 40-year-old actor, as promised by the showrunner. From getting injured to losing Ciri, the White Wolf suffered a great deal in the third season. There was another promise from the showrunner, Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich, about the season being closer to the books. As season 3 dropped on Netflix, fans debated if the plot was lore accurate or merely heartbreaking.
In the finale of season 3, so many things are happening at the same time. Therefore, while trying to depict everything all together, Geralt does not get much screen time. While there is a war going on, all the characters are trying to find their safe sides. Amidst all the chaotic situations, Princess Cirilla is fighting her battle all alone. After watching the season 3 finale, fans thought the Superman actor deserved better.
The writing in Henry Cavill’s final episodes of The Witcher were truly abysmal.
So much precious TIME was spent on desert Ciri and him on his back moaning and groaning😭
His “send off” was a fight scene against… random guards?!? What a shame. No wonder he’s leaving the show. pic.twitter.com/UWo0n3RAmR— CanWeGetSomeToast (@CanWeGetToast) July 28, 2023

The entire Continent is shifting from being balanced to having a big war. While Yennefer is on her way to find Ciri with the help of other mages, Geralt is also on the same way with Jaskier. Vilgefortz took the fake Ciri to Emhyr with Fringilla having her own agenda against Nilfgaard, and Francesca finding the truth about the death of her child.
Season 3 of the Netflix Original showcased these events, with a promise of these events being closer to the original books. There were already talks about the show deviating from the original books. Therefore, amidst the departure of the fan-favorite actor, fans find it difficult to see Cavill go like this.
Henry Cavill drops swords, leaving fans debating
After watching the remaining episodes of the latest season of the show, there was a question of whether the English actor made the right decision. The same question continues here as well. Fans do not understand why the final season of the Man of Steel actor gave him the least screen time. While a handful of people found it heartbreaking, those who have read the books defended the show by saying this was how it happened in the books.
@NetflixUK good luck with the witcher moving forward , utter disgrace how you treated cavill , all you had to do was follow the books , but no… you know better … season 4 is going to be dusted before it even starts

But they’re using him to promote the series. “Henry’s final episodes have arrived!” Disgraceful.
I definitely expected a better sendoff. Last scenes with Ciri and Yen were lackluster too.

So like the books, sorry Henry Cavill wont change that.

That's exactly how it goes in the books. In fact, Geralt was beaten even more brutally by Vilgefortz and the desert scene drags on even longer. This is why I always say showrunners have to strike a balance between being faithful and adapting something for TV.

Moreover, some fans also expressed their disappointment over the treatment of the Mission Impossible star and his character. But again, those who have read the books explained how the portrayal was lore accurate.

Not even a thank you or farewell text or montage or something to appreciate his presence… shameful behavior from Netflix

Sorry, but that's whats happening in the books too. Geralt got his ass kicked and barely survives, and Ciri in the desert is a huge part. She's the main character from now on.

Sounds like you aren’t a fan of the plot in the books and that’s ok! Besides Henry quit months after filming wrapped so of course there’s no big send off 🤷🏻♀️
