“Little exaggerated” – Prince Harry Finally Comments on Infamous Meghan Markle Tiara Drama
Meghan Markle dazzled at her wedding with Prince Harry in a timeless white gown by Clare Waight Keller. However, not the £110,000 Givenchy dress but Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau stole all the thunder. As per the royal tradition, Queen Elizabeth II lent Markle the tiara that had a 10-diamond brooch as a centerpiece for her wedding. Following the royal wedding, a lot of stories popped up in the media regarding the tiara.
Various reports suggested that Meghan Markle initially loved the emerald tiara, but the late monarch denied her request. There were also rumors about the former American actress and Prince Harry misbehaving with Her Majesty’s dresser, Angela Kelly, for denying them access to the tiara. The Duke of Sussex finally put all the speculations to rest in his memoir Spare by detailing the infamous incident.

Meghan Markle wished to wear Princess Diana’s tiara
As per Page Six, Prince Harry debunked all the claims circulating in the media. He revealed that Meghan Markle wished to wear one of Princess Diana’s tiaras at the wedding. This was supposed to be the Sussexes’ way to pay tribute to the late royal on their big day. However, the late Queen was not much appreciative of the same and insisted the couple choose something from her private jewelry collection. They were presented with five exquisite pieces and finally managed to zero down on the Queen Mary one.

However, it was after the selection that the drama began. One week following the incident, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wished to borrow the tiara for a trial. Kate Middleton had told Markle that wearing the tiara was a tedious task. The headpiece needed to be placed at the right location on the head. Thus, the Suits alum wanted to do a hairstyle trail with the jewelry.
However, Angela Kelly was not supportive of the decision. She denied the couple access to the tiara, saying that it could only leave the palace with “an ordinance and police escort”. Reflecting on the fiasco, the Duke wrote, “That seemed to us a little exaggerated. It was obvious they were putting up obstacles. It didn’t occur to us what motives they might have.”
