Henry Cavill has been on record admitting to his love for The Witcher franchise. Not only is he an avid fan of the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, but also has a soft spot for the CD Projekt RED’s video games. This gave him a ton of first-hand knowledge about the source material. However, fighting in games is very different from on-set combat. So, Cavill needed extensive sword-fighting training. The actor rehearsed “day in and day out” to adjust to the weight of the sword, said Cavill at Comic-Con 2019 in San Diego.

He even performed and choreographed a lot of his action set pieces by himself. Cavill worked alongside choreographer Wolfgang Stegemann during the unforgettable fight scene in the town of Blaviken. Cavill knew the source material so well that sometimes he did not even need his dialogue. While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner Lauren Hissrich revealed how they “didn’t even shoot half the dialogue” as she felt Cavill did not “require” her words.
