The history of Netflix with anime has been anything but smooth sailing. After delivering back-to-back underwhelming adaptations, anime fans gave up on believing in the OTT giant’s credibility. When Netflix announced the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga series, it cast a cloud of skepticism over its streamers. However, Matt Owens and Steven Maeda blew everyone’s mind with One Piece, which broke all the debut records on Netflix.

One Piece’s overwhelming success led to people believing in the streaming platform’s ability to adapt to mangas once again. Leveraging the trust, Netflix is ready to release many other manga adaptations, including Naoki Urasawa’s Pluto. Recently, the OTT giant dropped the trailer for its upcoming adaptation, creating a buzz among fans. Set to release on October 26 this year, the anime revolves around the neo-futuristic world of humans and high-performance robots.

The award-winning manga Pluto is a spin-off of Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy. Urasawa, who looks up to Tezuka, also known as “the father of manga”, serialized Pluto from September 2003 to April 2009 in a popular manga magazine. Given Netflix’s attempts to win over its manga audience back, fans are eagerly anticipating seeing some impressive artistry in the upcoming anime series.
