Despite everything going around the royal rota, it is business as usual in Buckingham. King Charles has been hands-on in taking up his new duties as the soon-to-be monarch of the United Kingdom. His recent German state visit turned out to be a massive success with the royals getting the best treatment from the German republic. However, there is no rest for the 74-year-old. After having rendered his external duties, King Charles today got back to his roots with the Queen’s Green Canopy Project.

Taking to the official Instagram handle of the royal family, the King shared a picture of him and his eldest, drawing close to a year-old Queen’s Green Canopy Project by paying its last tributes. As the caption read, the King and the Prince of Wales were “Proudly marking the end of the @queensgreencanopy project by planting this Acer tree in the gardens of Sandringham House.” 

Meanwhile, the thread continued a nostalgic throwback with a picture of the former Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, along with the then-heir to the throne, Prince Charles. In memory of the same the King wrote, “it’s hard to believe that two years have passed away since my mother and I planted a tree in the Windsor Great Park”

Expressing his gratitude to people across his nation, he acknowledged “how simple practical and positive gestures can make a big difference.” The initiative put into effect by the late Queen has thus far resulted in a collective plantation of as many as three million trees in the United Kingdom 

What is the history behind Queen’s Green Canopy Project?

Although it had been carried out for years, the Queen’s Green Canopy Project was made a legitimate royal service to be followed by the Queen herself in the year 2021. It all began when Prince Charles and his mother joined hands at their Balmoral estate to plant a copper beech tree. Afterward, to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in 2022, the Queen called for a collective initiative across generations across all 53 commonwealth nations to plant as many trees as possible around their surroundings. 

While citizens, youth organizations, and celebrities across the nation participated in the joint initiative, members of the royal family too have, time and again, served the same in the honor of the Queen. While the project draws to a close, its legacy lives on with people continuing the initiative to this day.
