After waiting for ages, we finally have The Sandman going on screen this year. Netflix’s adaptation will hit the screen in a few days on 5th August 2022. Many attempts have been made to bring the comic from pages to the screen beginning with Keanu Reeves’ Constantine. But this is anticipated to be the best of them all. Here’s what you need to know before watching Neil Gaiman’s adaptation of the comic book series.
How are Keanu Reeves ’Constantine and Sandman related?
Based on a DC comic, Hellblazer the movie Constantine starred world renowned Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz. Sharing the screen with him are Djimon Hounsou and many more ruling actors from Hollywood. Although released long back in 2005, fans have again come back to this film on Netflix for its connection with the upcoming television series Sandman.
Netflix’s The Sandman stars Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine. She’s an occult detective and relative of John Constantine in the series. She has worked with Gaiman before after he penned Nightmare In Silver.
“This Sandman character became so popular that she even had her own spin-off series.”

“I created her to fill the role that John Constantine did in the past. When we broke down the first season, given that we knew that we would be encountering Johanna in the past, we wondered what would happen if we met a version of her in the present as well.” said Gaiman.
“We tried it and the script was sparkier, feistier, and in some ways even more fun. So having written her, we just had to cast her. Jenna Coleman (she/her) gave us the Johanna of our dreams – tough, brilliant, tricky, haunted and probably doomed.”
The outstanding line of cast of The Sandman
According to the comic series, Johanna Constantine is an aristocratic adventurer. She is an ancestor of John Constantine whom we had seen in the horror movie earlier. Born to lord and Lady Constantine, she was stripped of her name in childhood and was separated from family. In January 2021 Netflix officially unveiled a first look at the cast, which included Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie and Charles Dance as Lucifer and Roderick Burgess respectively. Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten) has been cast as Cain while Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing) plays Abel – both residents of Dream’s realm – while Vivienne Acheampong portrays chief librarian Lucienne.

Neil, as reported by the media houses, will be using the rectified and accurate pronunciation of the surname. Ever since the movie’s release in the early 20s, it’s been pronounced as ‘Constan-teen’ instead of ‘Constan-tyne’ which, according to the creator and the actor, is the wrong form of saying it.
As we’re here waiting for The Sandman to hit the theatres, meanwhile watch the movie Constantine and give into a major recap.
