We are no strangers to the legacy of the Met Gala. They have always been a glamorous and fancy affair and enjoy some of the biggest Hollywood stars in the audience. Over the years, celebrities have dressed up in some of the most creative ways in this much-loved annual celebration of fashion. The Gala is amongst the fanciest event in Hollywood. However, this one time, Kanye West shocked everyone as he dressed up rather peculiarly.

Apart from his influence in the hip-hop genre of music, Kanye West is also among the top fashion icons around the world. And unsurprisingly he is no stranger to pushing the limits of everything he does, be it fashion or music. Back in the 2019 Met Gala, the Flashing Lights hitmaker did something that surprised the crowd. As the audience witnessed various celebrities put on extravagant and over-the-top outfits for the event, Ye, on the contrary, decided to do things differently. Interestingly, the rapper wore a simple Dickies Eisenhower jacket, pairing it up with black slacks and boots. To make it sound more surprising, the jacket only cost $43.

Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian was in no mood to make this event any less glamorous. The then 38-year-old model left the audience in awe, as she showed up in a bronze-gold custom Thierry Mugler dress. Surprising as it sounds, the dress was dripping with crystals. It seemed like Ye was just a backdrop for Kardashian’s extravagant outfit. It might shock you to know, but this was not the first time Ye dressed up in such a simple manner. During the 2016 Met Gala, the Heartless star arrived in a simple white t-shirt and a pair of jeans to the biggest night of fashion.

Meanwhile, the SKIMS owner and the rest of her family shined with their respective outfits in the Met Galas that followed 2019’s. That wouldn’t be the case with the event in 2023.

The 2023 Met Gala to take place without the Kardashians?

Throughout the years, the Kardashians have always set the bar high with their incredible outfits at the Met Galas. However, it seems like this year, we might not get a chance to witness reality TV’s first family. As per Page Six, sources reveal that the guest list for this year’s event is unlikely to feature any member of the Kardashian family.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Met Gala will be hosted by some of the biggest names of sports, acting and music. Reports suggest Dua Lipa, Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel and Roger Federer are amongst those who will be serving as the co-chairs.
