Joey Batey Begged for This Character From the Book to Be a Part of ‘The Witcher’ Series
The Witcher Season 3 for reasons ranging from Henry Cavill’s exit to the introduction of The Rats is starting on a serious note. However, much like how he has gone above and beyond his call of duty to bring humor to the show, Jaskier is marking Season 3 as his “hot girl’s summer“.
Due to Henry Cavill’s exit taking the spotlight and essentially becoming greater than the show itself, fans missed out on a number of new additions. One of which was requested by Joey Batey himself. And for a first, it backs up Lauren Schmidt Hissrich’s claim about season 3 being closely adapted by the books. The character in question is none other than Vespula.
If there is one character that shines even in the shadow of Henry Cavill’s great Geralt, it is Joey Batey’s Jaskier. This may be because, much like Cavill, Joseph Batey is an avid fan of the source material. In an interview with Games Radar, Joey Batey revealed he “insisted on putting a book character in“. This was followed by a couple of “please” for the sake of Vespula’s addition.

The character of Vespula has found herself in the hands of Beau Holland. Furthermore, the actress boasts red hair and green eyes, much like the book’s description. Vespula is a pivotal character in the books. And although she may not turn the tables for Ciri, fans are excited to see her on screen.
Her character will be more or less restricted to Jaskier and the romantic storylines that he is set to have. However, more than what her character will be doing in the upcoming season, there is another question that is troubling fans.
Fans react to Vespula’s introduction in The Witcher Season 3 after Joey Batey “insisted” on it
The fandom was starved of any content regarding Season 3. This, and also the fact that the storyline seems intriguing, has led to a favorable reception. However, one thing to know about fans of The Witcher series is that they aren’t all that happy with the creators. And for all the good adjectives they are willing to associate with it, ‘good adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books’ is not one of them. Therefore, Joseph Batey, having to plead for the introduction of a book character, does not sit right with them.
For Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, this could not come at the worst time. Henry Cavill’s unexplained departure was understood as the series straying away from the source material. And this has led to a series of jokes, albeit light, worrying if Batey will be the next to leave the show.
