“It didn’t have to be this way.” – Did Henry Cavill Make the Right Decision of Leaving ‘The Witcher’ After the Third Season?

The Witcher  Season 3’s Volume 2 is now streaming on Netflix. The season finale marked the grand exit of Henry Cavill. Although there are many theories circulating around the British actor’s departure. One of them is because the show was deviating from the original books and video games. Being an avid fan of books and video games, the Enola Holmes actor decided to part ways with the show before it was too late. However, as the third season landed on Netflix, did the actor make the right decision to leave the show?

Season 3 of the Netflix Original depicted many things happening at the same time. Although the producers and showrunner promised the season to be closer to the books,  according to Erik Kain from Forbes, there were many things that could have gone differently. In his review of the third season, Kain wrote, “It didn’t have to be this way.” Why did the final episodes of season 3 feel disappointing?

In the sixth episode, while there is a confusing big fight going on at Aretuza, Geralt and Ciri escape. On their way, the father-daughter duo enters the cave where Geralt senses danger. The question that arises here is why did not Geralt take some of the potion when he clearly knew there was danger ahead. Moreover, after the fight with Vilgefortz, Geralt is seen deadly injured while his wounds did not appear so.

For a fighter like Geralt, his fight with Vilgefortz was not up to the mark, as the choreography was not very impressive. If the viewers remember his fights from the first season, like the Blaviken fight, which left a major impression on Geralt’s signature fight, they would find this specific fight a little dull. Surprisingly, the show creators missed a big chance of making Cavill’s Geralt fight in most of the scenes. They could have created a huge scene with the White Wolf’s fight to make him look more heroic.

In most of these episodes, the showmaker’s showcased Geralt lying in the woods to heal. Well, it was not the ideal way of bidding farewell to one of the most iconic actors in the show. Apart from the Superman actor’s ill-treatment, there were other things as well which, according to the source, ruined the show.

Which other details from The Witcher were not at their best?

Despite the big promises, the show did not follow the books in so many ways. For instance, the way Geralt cuts Rience’s head changed the way it happened in the books. Moreover, the way the characters appeared in the show was not accurate to the books as well. The introduction of the Rats is one of the inaccurate representation examples.

The show could have treated Jaskier in a better way as well. Why was not he given another great song this season? The confusion around the characters like Fringilla and Francesca made the plot more complex. The treatment of the plot could have been more accurate and different, per source.
