Is Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Connected to Star Wars? Here Is The Truth Behind It
Being most known for his long list of comic books and superhero movies, Zack Snyder is not someone who really needs an introduction. Even though the audience may have a mixed reaction when it comes to his films, it is easy to see that the man has a passion for storytelling. Following his DC run, the director made his Netflix debut in 2021 with the Army of the Dead, after signing a major deal with the streaming giant, all set to stream in December.
Zack Snyder seems to be living up to his “big projects and big movies” promise, with Netflix having released Rebel Moon‘s first official teaser. But fans can’t help but notice its similarities to the huge 1970s blockbuster franchise, Star Wars. But is it actually connected to the franchise in any way?

Ever since Netflix announced that the Man of Steel director would be putting forth a new two-part sci-fi movie, there was a tinge of excitement and suspense in the air for what was to come. But after Netflix released the official teaser for Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire, fans have been pointing out connections between the director’s film and the age-old classic Star Wars. While Rebel Moon’s teaser showed fans its many similarities to the Star Wars franchise, one similarity that was missed was the directors’ inspiration behind creating their respective films.
Both the directors drew inspiration from Japanese filmmaker, Akira Kurosawa. His movie The Hidden Fortress, which was released in 1958, left a tremendous impact on the Star Wars creator. Whereas Snyder took inspiration from both Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai and Star War films as he shared with Empire Magazine. “It was Seven Samurai in space. And a Star Wars movie was my original concept for it,” Snyder said.
While Rebel Moon is Netflix’s now, it was supposed to be another alleged Star Wars adventure. But those plans fell through when Disney bought Lucasfilm, George Lucas’ television company. Which might have been a good thing, after all, considering what fans have seen so far.
