Netflix has become home to many tasteful pieces of filmography since it started expanding globally in the 2000s, acquired and original alike. Often helping lesser-known shows receive a sturdier ground to stand than to be left out without a roof to its name. Rogue Agent, is a stellar example of a lesser-known show being worthy of a watch. 

Being a book that its cover, which might be a niche, could judge that the streaming giant runs after Rogue Agent could serve as a sophisticated addition to any shelf it is placed on, but what about on Netflix?

Having been received reasonably across rating sites, a collaboration production between three great houses has been available on Netflix on August 12, 2022, previously released in the UK earlier that year. The cast consisted of talents such as Gemma Arterton, James Norton, and the Star Trek: Discovery actor: Shahzad Latif, already creating an air of mystery around its true-to-life-events based plot that no audience might be able to resist. 

Rogue Agent had initially been named Freegard, after Robert Freegard, the conman that it had been based. The plot follows events heavily inspired by the chase and uncovering of the aforementioned, by his love interest in the show, Alice Archer, who is played by Gemma Arterton. Robert Freegard, played by James Norton, is known to have tricked people into investing their life savings, as he posed as an MI5 Agent. Despite there being a few discrepancies observed by the audience from the real-life events, it was received as an interesting addition to the watchlist.

Plots with undercover identities, the skin-crawling feeling of the based-on-true-event tag, leaves one intrigued and craving for more of such mind-boggling stories, questions of “did that really happen” plagues our minds and our nights, and there is no end to the list of shows that are going to make the audience feel this way, at least not in sight.

While Rogue Agent might keep things melodramatic and grave, Inventing Anna, provides a stark contrast with both pace, drama, and the string of sassy characters, but at the end of the, also based on the real-life-events, scams caused by one Anna Delvey across America as she chased her dream of building a mega art collective to her name; is one example of a true crime series, amongst other gems on Netflix.

Shows like Tinder-Swindler, Unbelievable, and Bad Vegan, are some true-to-life shows that Netflix has listed under its ever-growing catalog of thriller slash true crime series. Whilst these may be enjoyable and brain-stimulating, even informative to an extent, this genre of documentary series or adaptations of true-events, often throws light on the more twisted and skewed side of human nature, giving one an interesting viewpoint to the grand scheme of things.
