The third installment of The Witcher was a memorable chapter for more than one reason. Not only did it mark the departure of the OG of Rivia, Henry Cavill, from the franchise, but also put evident effort to stay faithful to the series’ literary roots. However, there was another twist that brought a breath of fresh air to the narrative of the Netflix original. It was the introduction of new faces to the franchise.

One notable addition to the series was Hugh Skinner, who played the cruel Prince Radovid in The Witcher. But, is he really the bad guy in the show?

One of the most jaw-dropping plot twists in the third season of the Lauren Hissrich show was the crowning of Radovid as the King of Redania. Those who are familiar with the original books and games would know that Radovid is the cruelest character in the franchise who is known for his vehement disdain for anything magical. He is so against sorcery that he would not think twice before killing anyone connected to magic. However, the third season of the show portrays Radovid as a less sinister figure with a weakness for manipulation.

Dijkstra and Philippa, who worked closely with Radovid, took his advantage time and again- going as far as leading the Redanian ruler to use and betray Jaskier, for whom he had feelings. And this manipulation could bring forth the evilness of Radovid in the upcoming season that could have major repercussions in the world of The Witcher. Even Hugh Skinner reflected on this character ahead of the season’s release.

Radovid’s progression as the evil monarch of Redania is one of the things that are hooking people to anticipate another season. However, not many know that Skinnier never watched The Witcher show before joining the Netflix franchise. In an interview with Metro.co.uk, the actor shared that Radovid being an “outsider” was the compelling aspect that caught his attention. Also, the fact that he had to play a “gay character” in such a big franchise was something that he found “unique”.

Talking about the character he said, that Radovid is “a bit lost”, and “he does not really have any purpose”. He shed light on Radovid’s equation with Dijkstra and Philippa’s and also talked about the romantic angle with the bard, Jaskier. Apart from Liam Hemsworth’s entry into the franchise, and Ciri’s transformation, Radovid’s impact in The Witcher universe could give the narrative an intriguing and compelling twist in the upcoming season.
