Always the first to jump at the opportunity of making a documentary about a phenomenon that has the entire world scratching its heads, Netflix was initially branching out with documentaries as its intellectual property. However, with movies like Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and shows like Bridgerton, the streamer's affinity towards the ultrarich and the Renaissance has also become clear. An amalgamation of all its strong suits is the upcoming mystery documentary Monster of Florence. 

Centered around the serial killer who is popularly known as The Monster, the upcoming documentary will take into account one of the longest-running double murder investigations in Italy. 

Originally, Medici: The Monster of Florence was taken up by Netflix after its initial release on the Italian TV channel, Rai 1 in October 2016 and was sheltered by Netflix by the December of the same year. Despite the similarity in the name, the 2016 series is about the House of Medici, the bankers to the Pope in Italy. The upcoming documentary, The Monster of Florence by Stefano Sollima, however, is quite literally based on a cutting-edge true story, as it goes over the series of double murders in Italy between the 1960s and the mid-1980s, whose harrowing aftermath still runs fresh as per Variety.

Contrary to Medici: The Monster of Florence, a drama that was 'inspired' by true events, the upcoming Netflix documentary is a depiction of the horrifying murders that took place in Italy. While the case remains unsolved to this day, there have been many who have almost become the face of 'The Monster of Florence' as the suspects in the game remain plenty.

Given the already dramatized effect that the reality of the case possesses, Netflix is going fact by fact by this one, adding another layered murder mystery to its already packed catalogue.

The upcoming Netflix documentary simply owing to the fact that it revolves around a serial killer has fans hooked. To further season this curry is the fact that the case known as The Monster, surrounding the double murders in Florence from the 1960s to the mid-1980s, remains as cold as its killer to date. The already intriguing details of the long-running investigation will be depicted by Stefano Sollima, the mastermind behind Gomorrah. The cherry on top remains not just Sollima but also the dream team behind Gomorrah, with Leonardo Fasoli doing the writing and Paolo Carnera, in charge of the cinematography.

The four-episode limited series does not have a release date to pin on the calendar as of yet; however, the teaser drop suggests that it will be gracing Netflix's corridor in the coming two or three months. Given the chokehold grasp that it has had on the mystery documentary enthusiasts, this Netflix original might just follow its predecessors' footsteps to become another Netflix murder mystery to take over the world.
