Luckiest Girl Alive is the story of dark truth, past secrets, and the unraveling of it all. The movie is based on Jessica Knoll’s novel of the same name. Although most of the story is a work of fiction, some of the reel harrowing events are actually true, and in fact based on her real life. According to sources, Knoll always wanted to get her story and experience out on paper.

Per the author’s admission, she studied in a private school and experienced gang rape the way the characters suffer in the movie. And how the whole experience is downplayed by peers, making her question everything. “I desperately craved the release of getting my story out on paper and the validation of recognizing what had happened to me as rape. I needed that,” said Knoll.

In fact, the pain is so raw, Knoll asked not to be present on the film shoot when the assault scene was to take place. She apparently didn’t want to make things any more uncomfortable than it already was with her presence. Interestingly, the school gun shooting sequence was added because she did not feel that her pain of being raped was strong enough.
