Is He Really Gone? ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 Finale Gives a ‘Confusing’ Send-Off to Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill, the man who brought to life The Witcher world’s Geralt of Rivia, has officially left the show after three seasons. It was known for a long time, that Season 3 Part 2 of the series will deal with and depict the star’s exit. Fans expected a big battle or something that would end it all for the White Wolf. However, the final three episodes that dropped on Netflix on July 27th, 2023, left fans confused about his departure.
Instead of a proper climactic sequence, the final delivered a somber ending that did not give any indication of Cavill’s Geralt’s fate. So the question remains: Has Henry Cavill actually exited the show?

First things first, Netflix messed up big time. After splitting the show into two parts, it alienated fans with its decision to continue with the fourth season without Henry Cavill. A knee-jerk reaction to it was a thirty percent drop in viewership to the first part. Moreover, the last three final and latest episodes are among the series’ lowest. Specifically, the last two episodes are now infamous for having the lowest scores for a Witcher episode ever.
A lot of it has to do with the manner in which the series handled the ending. Given fan expectations of the teaser trailers, the final product was anything but close to it.
Without dishing any major spoilers, it is safe to say that fans were left underwhelmed. Geralt is known for his fighting skills and ruthlessness. However, we got to see very little of that. The episodes spent a lot of time showcasing other character arcs while the main crux had shockingly low screen times. Furthermore, the endings spent a lot of time depicting a wounded Geralt recuperating from his wounds.
In the end, he simply walked off into the distance with no indication of what happens to him ahead. Fortunately, the series did not kill off Cavill’s character on-screen, leaving the character open to interpretation.
However, now that Cavill is gone, at least off-screen, can The Witcher pull itself back together?

Liam Hemsworth, who takes over the sword of Geralt from Henry Cavill, has a lot of ground to cover. First, he has to build an active physique and hone fighting skills like Cavill. Next, he has to acknowledge the source material to improvise his lines, again like Cavill. Finally, he has to persuade fans to give him a chance with his performance. The last task is probably the most daunting for him. Fans had already voiced their opinions that Henry Cavill will be taking a lot of them away from the show with himself. The recent drop to record-low ratings certainly does not bode well for the new Geralt.
However, the actor has shown the utmost commitment to the role. He has even praised and taken inspiration from the departing star to get into the role. Additionally, he has taken up rigorous training to get in shape for the role. Despite all, fans still have not received a proper look at Liam Hemsworth as the titular character, except maybe for some AI renditions.
