G.I. Jane is an American war drama film directed by Ridley Scott. The film tells the story of the first woman who succeeds in enrolling herself in Combined Reconnaissance Team training. These trainings are always a men’s place, so as a woman everybody expects her to fail. Thus, the film will highlight the struggle of a woman in a patriarchal society.

The 1997 hit film, G.I. Jane, is creating quite a buzz since the Oscars. It seems like audiences are eager to watch the hit films from the 90s to make sense of Chris Rock’s comments. Usually, Netflix, comes to fans’ rescue is such cases rescue every time. But would that be the case this time? Is G.I. Jane available on Netflix?

Because of the political pressure from Senator Lillian DeHaven, the U.S. Navy started a program that will include women in the services. So, to check the capacity, Lieutenant Jordan O’Neil has been appointed to the training program. She undergoes the training under John James Urgayle, the commander, who unfairly pushes O’Neil until her determination wins his respect.

What do the critics think?

G.I. Jane has mostly received mixed reviews from the critics as well as audiences. In Rotten Tomatoes, the film has scored 50% and 53% in the audience meter.

Roger Ebert in his review, wrote, “The training sequences … are good cinema because Ridley Scott, the director, brings a documentary attention to them and because Demi Moore, having bitten off a great deal here, proves she can chew it.”

Meanwhile, Empire felt the movie was “confused: overlong, it begins by being about a woman battling to overcome prejudice, and ends up a gun-toting Arab-killing action movie.”
