After eight years since Netflix unleashed the Upside Down extravaganza onto its streamers, Stranger Things is officially ending. While fans are not yet ready to say goodbye to their monster-fighting characters, the hype around the final season is still higher than ever. Especially with teasers and behind-the-scenes tidbits surfacing every now and then, how the Hawkins crew will finally end Vecna's terror has become a real sleep-stealer. Though we do not have all the answers yet, Gaten Matarazzo recently gave a glimpse of what the finale might look like. 

Matarazzo, known for playing Dustin, hinted at how the final episode of Stranger Things season 5 will weave all the loose threads together. 

Gaten Matarazzo recently sat down for an interview on Backstage’s In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, where he revealed to host and senior editor Vinnie Mancuso that the Stranger Things cast has officially read the script for the series finale. The 22-year-old further shared that they took a collective look over the script on his birthday, i.e., September 8, and called it a "full-circle" moment. “Finally seeing how it all wraps up was intense and beautiful,” added the LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy star.

Matarazzo, who has been charming audiences as the lovable Dustin Henderson since he was 13, is still coming to terms with the end of this major chapter. Even though he has some pretty cool gigs on the side, including a Broadway stint last year as Tobias in Sweeney Todd, the thought of Stranger Things closing its doors still has him wrestling with mixed emotions- just like any other cast member.

Last year, Gaten Matarazzo opened up about his fears about the show’s end and shared that one last wish before his character's final bow. 

Gaten Matarazzo, in an interview with USA Today, shared his wishes for Dustin in the final season. The actor revealed he hopes his character gets a reality check on his inflated ego. According to Matarazzo, Dustin sees himself as a key player in defeating Vecna and the brainiest of the bunch, but this sometimes comes off as sheer arrogance- something Steve and Eddie called him out for in Season 4. “I’d like to see him be knocked down a few pegs,” Matarazzo told the publication.

In another chat on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Matarazzo opened up about the bittersweet end of this fan-favorite saga. He acknowledged that while everyone was excited about the show's finale, it also meant that he would have to let go of his security blanket and return to the unpredictability of freelancing. "There's like a deep fear that's been like – not only has it been amazing but it's been like pretty great job security,” he admitted. However, after a decade of making the show, he is ready to turn this page of his career for good.
