“I’m really not here for controversy” – Throwback to When Kanye West Had Different Views About His Words

Kanye West and controversy have become synonyms for each other in the past year. The American rapper has been involved in so many of them that it is hard to keep track of all of them. The year 2022 can be counted as one of the worst years of Ye’s life, especially after many brands broke ties with his company.

After his divorce from Kim Kardashian, Ye was already struggling. But then his anti-Semitic remarks came in the way and took away the whole empire of this billionaire turned millionaire. However, in 2016, when his company Yeezy was a leading brand, West gave an interview where he talked about controversies.

What did Kanye West say about controversies?

“I’m really not here for controversy,” Ye told Vogue before his season 4 presentation of Yeezy in 2016. He said this when he was just a few hours away from performing at Madison Square Garden. He was at the Saint Pablo Tour, his biggest hit of the year. Those comments regarding controversy should have been seen as a challenge coming from someone so outspoken.

Although, soon after that he got into a controversy when he canceled his Saint Pablo tour in November because he was admitted to the hospital in Los Angeles for a psychiatric evaluation. During his tour, he made some pro-Donald Trump comments that did not prove fruitful. Also, in October, while he was at a concert, his wife, Kim Kardashian, was robbed in Paris at gunpoint. Because of that, the rapper had to leave the concert midway to be by her side.

It was when Kanye had already gotten involved in some of the biggest controversies of the year 2016. There was another controversy that he had in 2016 regarding his song Famous. The song is another one of Ye’s explicit music videos, in which he featured 12 naked celebrities, along with him and his wife, in bed.
