“If they don’t want to give my man…” – Chris Rock Slams the Oscars for Snubbing His Friend, Adam Sandler
The Oscars have a notorious reputation for snubbing favorite stars and their biggest achievements. Two examples that come to mind are Leonardo DiCaprio and veteran actor, Al Pacino. Fans were outraged that it took so long for the Academy to bestow the stars with the honorary award. The Oscars also recently snubbed Adam Sandler despite his stellar turn in Uncut Gems. However, none had the guts to poke fun at the Academy until, of course, Chris Rock. The comedian, who last year made headlines for the slapgate with Will Smith, recently took a dig at the Oscars and praised his good friend, Adam Sandler.
Chris Rock was at the Kennedy Center to honor his friend for earning the coveted Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The comedian was still salty about the Oscars slapgate but was even more pissed off for not giving Sandler his due. He told the audience, “If they don’t want to give my man his props, then we will tonight,” to thunderous applause. The 50 First Dates star was snubbed twice. Despite earning several nominations for Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, the Academy didn’t see him as worthy of a nomination.

Rock first met Sandler when he was working at the Comic Strip club and both were just kick-starting their career. However, Sandler was already a few steps ahead of him. When he returned from a trip with Eddie Murphy, the 58-year-old saw Sandler working for the crowd on a weekend. Despite his jealousy, Rock couldn’t help but appreciate Sandler’s content. They two became fast friends when Sandler asked him to hang out with him.
The comedian didn’t forget to make another joke here that the Hollywood actor was one of the few and a Jew at that to ask him to hang with him. Before Rock honored his friend at the Kennedy Center, Sandler had defended Rock over Will Smith.
