Hollywood superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger, widely known for his roles in the Terminator series has always been very vocal about physical fitness. The actor-turned-politician was one of the first few to compete in bodybuilding competitions during the golden era of the 50s and the 70s. At 75, Arnold still keeps very much fit, refusing to give in age.
While he continues to advocate for physical fitness now, he was concerned about obesity among youngsters back in 1991. America has had a long history of fighting obesity. And the retired bodybuilder considered physical education a vital part of the school system to encourage youngsters to stay in shape.

Arnold Schwarzenegger encouraged parents to make exercise a family affair
In 1991, Arnold Schwarzenegger turned his attention to the youth increasingly showing signs of obesity. Add to that, budget cuts in schools meant physical education classes were the first to go. The then chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Arnold was worried about the heart diseases plaguing the out-of-shape youths.
“I wonder about the future. when 40 percent of all American youngsters between 5 and 8 already show at least one heart disease risk factor: physical inactivity, obesity, elevated cholesterol, or high blood pressure,” he told Washington Post. He had every reason to worry. Only one out of 50 states in America offered physical education to its students.

The Predator star had visited the governor of every state to launch an It’s Hip to Be Fit campaign to encourage youths to take up physical activities. According to him, it was essential for parents to set an example for their kids and make fitness a family affair.
Arnold suggested making small changes like ditching the car and going for a jog or a walk after dinner. Even playing ball or catch would make it fun for the kids. To support his claims, he gave an example from his childhood. He was required to exercise for 15 minutes before breakfast. Going by his #pumpdaily challenge on Instagram, the man is still working hard to inspire the masses to stay fit.
