Tyrese Gibson made news back in 2017 when he thanked Will Smith for giving five million dollars. But in a recent interview with Sway’s Universe, the actor recalled the incident and explained how it was the effect of the medicine that made him write what he did. “I was out of my mind,” he said while admitting that he had never spoken to Smith about it. Constant depression resulted in his doctor prescribing Rexulti medicine, which can alter one’s thought process and lead them to make mistakes.
As per him, the depression was an effect of financial loss as well as losing the custody of his daughter Shayla to his former wife Mitchell. She accused him of physically harming their daughter, an allegation that he still denies. The actor also deleted the Instagram post later as Smith’s representative denied giving any money. Meanwhile, the Oscar winner and his wife were concerned about Gibson’s health.
Although the news of his donation was untrue, Tyrese and Smith have maintained their friendship and backed each other through difficult times.

Tyrese Gibson and Will Smith have been friends for many years. During the launch of his self-help book, ‘How to Get Out of Your Own Way’, the former thanked the latter for mentor and a friend. He even stood by Smith after the Oscars incident, referring to him as a ‘hero’ and assuring him that everything will be alright.
While the struggle with depression is not over, Gibson has come a long way since 2017 and even starred in the 2022 drama The System.
