“I think it’s just the beginning,” Says Lee Jung Jae on Squid Games’ Historic Win at the SAG

Korean cinema is always one to look out for. Over the years, they have produced some of the greatest films ever made. With directors such as Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook, their films always are a must for any movie-goer. But now it seems that Korean TV shows are also getting a piece of fame. At the SAG Awards last night, the internationally-acclaimed and successful Korean show got to go home big!

And the winner is Lee Jung Jae

At the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards last night, the Netflix hit series Squid Game got to go home with the major awards last night.

Winning in the Best Actor in a Drama category and beating the likes of Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong is none other than Lee Jung Jae!

This is the first time a Korean drama has won in the category. It looks like, after Parasite sweeping the Oscars, Squid Game has also made history!

His comments on the historic win

Well, it is a no-brainer that a win in this significant category is no less than historic. But it also shows that the SAG jury accepts foreign work and even chooses them over their indigenous nominations.

In the backstage interview, the winner Lee Jung Jae talked about how this win will open opportunities for the Korean film industry. He said, “I think it’s just the beginning. There [is] a lot of amazing Korean content that’s just as entertaining and touching as Squid Game,” he said via an interpreter, “so I ask that you look out for [it], show us a lot of love and continue to watch a lot of great Korean content.”
