While filming for the new season has not started yet, there is already talk about new faces joining the cast other than Liam Hemsworth- some officially announced, some still under speculation. Among them is Sharlto Copley who will play the hunter Leo Bonhart in the upcoming installment. And it looks like Copley may  have done some homework before jumping into this exciting project in Lauren Hissrich's magical world.

Sharlto Copley recently had a brief chat with Variety. When asked if he was joining The Witcher, the actor confirmed his role in the fourth season with a firm "YES!". The interviewer also asked Copley if he was a fan of the franchise. The 50-year-old confessed he was quite unfamiliar with The Witcher, saying, "I knew very little about,” it. Because of this, he had to binge-watch all three seasons of the Lauren Hissrich adaptation.

Copley became famous for his roles in the 2009 hit District 9, which got four Oscar nods. His film credits include blockbuster franchises such as Maleficent and The A-Team, as well as unique genre offerings like Hardcore Henry, Free Fire, and Beast. Alongside Copley, the upcoming season is set to feature Danny Woodburn and potentially James Purefoy. While each character appears to have a place in Andrzej Sapkowski's novel adaptation, fans are still uncertain about Liam Hemsworth's fit.

Fans have loved Henry Cavill as the sword-swinging Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher. Furthermore, a leaked audition tape provided a sneak peek into how the show could move forward with Liam Hemsworth. The tape featured a scene featuring a young girl named Nimue, and a storyteller named Stribog, indicating that the series could be exploring a narrative set far into the future, where different storytellers share their childhood tales through vivid imaginations. 

As the creators aim to streamline any potential confusion for the transition in the upcoming seasons, this complex timeline could offer a perfect opportunity for the switch from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth on the show. Given The Witcher's deep narrative roots, the creators could also weave in flashbacks from earlier seasons in addition to moving the story forward. Nonetheless, Henry Cavill's absence from the franchise is expected to be balanced by the influx of new faces into The Witcher world.
