Netflix’s The Witcher may have had a tough-to-crack season three but it sure gave birth to a lot of memorable characters. Right from Henry Cavill as Geralt to Freya Allan as Ciri, the series was always hard at work to bring to life the world of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novel series. Among the many who have had their character arcs span over three seasons of the show, one was Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer. The Sorceress went from a bullied hunchback to a powerful foe to those who stood against her. And after season 3, she is one of the central characters to look at for badassery.

But the British-Indian actress is staggeringly different from her on-screen counterpart. Unlike her co-star Cavill, who became his character during his tenure in the show, Chalotra maintains that distinction between real and reel.

Anya Chalotra does not “like Instagram” and mentions this as an “occupational hazard” 

Unlike Henry Cavill, who was out packing after the third season, Chalotra’s Yennefer is soon to take center stage in The Witcher. However, while her on-screen character has traveled realms and has had tons of stories to tell across her nearly hundred-year-old lifespan, Chalotra stays self-reserved and despises social media. “I just don’t like Instagram,” she stated in an interview with Vogue and added that “Self-obsession is an occupational hazard in my career”.

Explaining it further, the actress said “I don’t like how social media changes or alters my mind.” Anya Chalotra said that the time she would spend dedicated to updating her fame on social media was better directed if she devoted it to something or someone that she liked. This shows in the meager forty posts made up of blurry pictures, friends, and nature that her five-year-old Instagram account.

Regardless of how sheathed she is in real life, the on-screen persona of Anya Chalotra is shaping up to take her to places big and across The Witcher continent.

The powerful and fierce character arc of Yennefer in The Witcher

When fans met Yennefer back in season one, she was a weak and frail persona. While that changed once she became a formidable sorceress, she still had a long way to go. However, come the season 3 finale, she is the most powerful wielder of magic across the very same land. After the death of her mentor, Tissaia, Yennefer separated herself from Geralt and Ciri. 

She then went on to reform The Brotherhood in Aretuza. Additionally, she now commands the power of magic more strongly than anyone else and bends chaos to her will. Season 4 of The Witcher will have Yennefer meet a now-changed Geralt, played by Liam Hemsworth, and a different Ciri, who goes on to join The Rats. The show’s narrative will now see Yennefer being the badass fans knew she could be since season 1.
