How TikTok Put a 37% Rotten Tomatoes-Rated Movie at a Top Spot on Netflix
TikTok has been very helpful for filmmakers to share their creativity and connect with audiences. Whether it is about promoting their upcoming films or constantly leveraging the power of content creators to not let the buzz die down on their old flicks, TikTok has become a dynamic platform for filmmakers. By using the platform strategically, one can even transform the flops into smash hits! And the same thing happened with this 2011 American science fiction action film on Netflix.
It would not have been a shocker if a flick that blew up the charts came back after a decade to garner tremendous viewership. But given an underwhelming rating of 37%, TikTok must have sprinkled some serious magic fairy dust to make this film rank at the top spot on Netflix.

There was a period when Netflix could not get its hands on acclaimed films owing to its hefty investment in Netflix originals. However, due to the ongoing strikes, the OTT giant has begun adding old classics to its catalog. Among the extensive collection of subpar films in Netflix’s library, there was also Justin Timberlake starrer In Time. The movie received a lukewarm response from the audience and did an average business at the box office. However, recently the 12-year-old movie became the third most-watched movie on the streaming platform. But how did that happen?
The movie revolved around a man who did not have much time left in the world and got a valuable gift of time upon saving another man from thieves. Despite getting highly unfavorable reviews from critics, it garnered ten million four hundred thousand hours of viewership on Netflix this week. Thanks to TikTok and its newest trend, where users are urging one another to revisit blasts from the past.
While In Time has been shining at the third spot on Netflix, Meghan Markle’s Suits became the most-watched show on Nielsen’s rankings a few weeks back.

It has been four years since the Aaron Korsh legal drama bid farewell to all its loyal fans. The American TV series was the most popular show of its time, with an enormous approval rating of 91 percent. However, the series started to fall apart when the two main leads, Markle and Patrick J. Adams, took their departure from the show. Nevertheless, fans brought the buzz back and gave 2.5 billion minutes of viewership to Suits, outshining another record-breaking Netflix original.
While Suits emerged as the top player for Nielsen’s Aug. 28-Sept. 3 viewing window, the most talked-about manga live adaptation on Netflix ended up in the second spot. One Piece, directed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, garnered a viewership of 1.3 billion minutes. Apart from Suits’ masterful character work and great storylines, the current speculations of a potential reboot of the show also became the reason for its viewership. However, the chances are thin for the revival of the legal drama owing to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.
