There was a time when The Witcher and Henry Cavill were synonymous. He was not just the face of the show due to his star power but also owing to the relentless dedication and effort he invested in his role. Being a true Witcher enthusiast, he fully immersed himself in the character and also infused it with his personal touch. All this hard work and dedication came to fruition on the day of the London premiere for the final season.

Henry Cavill, who had seen much acclaim for his impeccable portrayal of the Geralt of Rivia, found himself overwhelmed by the heartfelt reaction of his loyal fanbase on his departure from the franchise. 

Henry Cavill moved by fans’ standing ovation 

It was announced in 2022 that Henry Cavill would no longer be donning the armor of Geralt in The Witcher. In the London premiere of the third installment, host Ali Plumb reminded the audience that this was Cavill’s final season. As soon as Plumb announced it, a melancholic howl emerged from the fans which then transformed into an explosion of cheers and applause. 

The cast of the Netflix show rose to their feet to acknowledge the actor’s work. This eventually prompted the entire audience to give Henry Cavill a standing ovation. Despite the host’s warning to keep tears at bay, the former Superman could not mask his evident emotional surge. However, not many know that it was not just the fans who were blindsided by Henry Cavill’s departure from the show. 

Even the cast of the Netflix original was kept in the dark until a day before the information went public.

The Witcher cast’s reaction to Henry Cavill’s exit 

Freya Allan, popular for playing  Princess Cirilla in the show, revealed during a UNILAD interview earlier this year that the cast was only given a tiny amount of warning about Cavill’s exit. They only got their confirmation “the day before the world found out”. As per Allan, the entire cast was very emotional and deeply saddened by the news. They all shed tears on Cavill’s exit from the franchise. 

Freya Allan had developed a warm bond with the actor through the father-daughter relationship their characters shared. “I think the premiere will kind of be our send-off”, said the 22-year-old actress. And given the tribute at the premiere, it is safe to say that Allan, and the rest of the cast, along with the fans, meant every word of that statement.
