How ‘The Witcher’ Simplifying Politics in the Show Gave Yennefer More Space to Be the Centre of Everything
Volume 2 of The Witcher was all in talks as the famous hero hung his boots for the next season. Though Henry Cavill playing Geralt has given us several memorable moments in the show, the story has always been weaved in a way that the exit would feel natural and complete. The family dynamic between the three – Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri developed their chemistry further. And as is known, the upcoming Witcherverse expansion is already in the works with a definitive plot in mind. With new revelations about how the politics in the show were simplified for the audience, new things come to light. With Yennefer meant to be the center of the plot all along, the show will go on despite Cavill’s exit.
The ‘simplifying’ of politics has some interesting relation to how Yennefer was made the thriving center of The Witcher and this is what we know about it.

The producers had some interesting revelations about the simplification of politics in some of the gripping scenes that we have seen in the show. For one, the Conclave was way more toned down politically than it was in the books. And it was crafted as if it was the direct consequence of Yennefer’s actions. In the show, Viglefortz decides to massacre all the mages, making the chance encounter with all of them in one place look like a ‘coincidence.’ But that is not the case at all.
The second season’s execution of Cahir and Yennefer saving him led to mages getting alienated. This led to them splitting away and meeting for the first time again at the Conclave. But Viglefortz, or even events like Thanned Coup for that matter, was extra smoothened out. And as Redanian Intelligence reported it, the executive producer Tomek Baginski said, “We had to simplify politics behind it, because the Thanedd Coup is very, very complex politically.” It was all to muddle down politics and craft the story better to give Yennefer the center stage.
And as we see her being put in the limelight of the entire storyline, it started way longer ago than we think it did.

Yennefer has been casting her glow slowly in the seasons all along. In Season 1, the story showed Geralt’s journey intertwining with Ciri’s. But all along the season, the interesting turns only came in when we saw Yennefer’s story unfold. Yennefer’s noble upbringing was manifesting into becoming one the most powerful sorceress gives us amazing cuts in between.
Likewise in Season 2, it was seen how one’s decisions and experiences shape relationships. The Battle of Sodden Hill showed how her life was taken away from her. And Season 3 showcased the entire bond between Yennefer and Ciri blossoming into a beautiful maternal relationship. Whilst centering Yennefer as the center of the entire storytelling with her now leading Aretuza post Tissia’s death, the show is set to step into the fourth season.
