How Prince Harry’s Neglected Childhood Urged Him to Prioritize His Love for Archie and Lilibet
Following their feature in the Netflix bombshell docuseries, and their mention in the memoir, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, have persistently breached top headlines when it comes to the royal family. Their eldest, Archie, 3, along with their daughter, Lilibet, who is just a year old, has already come into much limelight in the last few months. And the recent developments regarding the Duke and the Duchess have been riding on the same Sussex children, a little more than expected.

On the 4th of March, 2023, the Duke sat for a full-length conversation with renowned speaker and trauma expert Gabor Maté for navigating through his record-breaking, memoir, Spare. Making love and freedom, the main themes running across the pages, the Duke touched on certain topics which included children and childhood trauma. Exploring the same in depth same, he could not help but talk about his affection towards his children.
Recalling how his overwhelming love and affection for his children is something he was himself completely deprived of as a child, he poured it all to the Maté. According to People Magazine, the father of two believes it is his position, “how as a father, I have two of my own making sure that I smother them with love and affection.” All of it is something that the Duke never saw his father prioritizing when he was a child, most importantly a child who had just lost their mother to a tragic car accident.
Hence, Prince Harry is extremely careful about what he decides to pass on to his kids, Archie and Lilibet. “I as a father feel a huge responsibility to ensure that I don’t pass on any traumas and negative experiences,” said Prince Harry. All of it was only possible with continuous work, and being conscious of one’s behavior towards their own kids, believes the father of two.

Speaking further about the same, the estranged royal revealed how, on some days in the past, he did feel the same. That is where therapy, as suggested by his wife, the Duchess, Meghan Markle, helped him through.

Furthermore, Prince Harry concluded this kids’ segment by saying he was immensely grateful for having been able to change his entire environment for his family. While speaking of changes, the Duke also acknowledged the fact that not everyone was as lucky as him to bring changes because “it comes down to resources.”
