There have been major landmark incidents that have made 2022 quite eventful. Having said that, an interview with the Emancipation star and the world-renowned The Daily Show host, Trevor Noah has been once again surfacing the headlines. Following his public apology that Will Smith posted through his social media handles, the star admitted his fault once again before the host. But it seems like the public, especially the media houses, still have some scores to settle with him.

As reported by People magazine, the industry shared mixed reactions about the exchanges between Smith and Trevor Noah in the interview. For instance, a veteran studio publicist was reportedly disappointed in the star for two things; Will did not address the Oscar Slapgate nor did he say anything about his then-much anticipated work, Emancipation. The source further added that “He is gutted”. Although it further demanded just a story, the source came to a grey ground stating, “the Cancel culture is getting bandanas”. 

Smith should not be judged on the Oscar incident for the rest of his life, the source said before concluding. Another admitted that “his public apology tours” is better than his official social media apology to Chris Rock. One more legitimate PR executive stood his ground saying, “Audiences love him. The Industry loves him“. Meanwhile, another put in an elaborate note saying, as horrible as the incident was, people would have actually loved to move on. 

However, given that Will Smith is one of the most recognizable and beloved characters in Hollywood, the fact is ever near to be bygone. Also giving an edge to Chris Rock’s side, the source praised him for handling the situation as he did. The outlet believes that had he reacted in another way, “which he had every right to,” we all would have been in a different state of mind.
