Meghan Markle has had a complicated history with her father-in-law, King Charles III. It is no secret that since the death of Princess Diana, Prince Harry has experienced a troubled relationship with his father. However, Charles’ relationship with Meghan was slightly different. It is believed that in the beginning, the two shared a warm friendship. 

You must remember that it was Charles who walked Meghan Markle down the aisle in the absence of her father, Thomas Markle. The retired director of photography came to the royal wedding a miss due to health concerns and the King stepped up to fulfill that duty. However, Meghan’s relationship with her father-in-law went for a toss following the Sussexes’ exit from the royal family.

What are King Charles’ thoughts about Meghan Markle?

It is learned that the monarch is highly upset with Meghan’s remarks about the royal family. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the former actress revealed being suffocated in the Palace and going through mental issues. She also made big claims about facing racism from some members of the household. 

The way Meghan Markle projected the royal family extremely hurt Charles. Royal author Christopher Anderson revealed that the monarch feels betrayed by his younger daughter-in-law. It took the King a good amount of time to come to terms with their accusations. The author added that, unlike Queen, Charles had not developed a thick sink for Harry and Meghan. Thus, the entire fiasco took a toll on him. 

“I mean, he really was very fond of her. And I think he’s somewhat bewildered. I don’t think it threw [Queen Elizabeth] as much as it has thrown at Charles, and understandably so, because this is his son and the daughter-in-law who said some pretty hurtful things,” Anderson told US Weekly. 

Anderson also revealed that the royal family and the King keep a tab on what Harry and Meghan say in their interviews regarding the House of Windsor. Meanwhile, the relationship between the Sussexes and the monarch can deteriorate further following the release of the docuseries and Harry’s memoir.
