Will Smith tells the tale of a whipped slave turned soldier

Emancipation narrates the real story of an enslaved man named Gordon living in the mid-1800s. A whipped man who became the evidence of the harrowing and gruesome truth of American slavery. This journey started with this man escaping from his captive and reaching an encampment outside Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Gordan was almost busted and starved after being hunted by bloodhounds and slave catchers for ten years. Fortunately, he stumbled upon the group of freed black soldiers who were battling to end slavery in the nation. Seeing those people in a dignified uniform was a ray of hope for this man, and he instantly enlisted himself to be one of them.
