Henry Cavill Once Opened Up on His Destiny to Take on the Role of Geralt In ‘The Witcher’

Bringing a fantasy production to life from one of the biggest fantasy franchises was a dream come true moment for fans. The major draw, however, was Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. Apart from his physicality, Cavill’s celebrated performance as the quintessential Superman following Christopher Reeves made him the ideal casting choice. The passion he had for video games and books, especially fantasy novels, hugely resonated with fans familiar with Witcher’s franchise. This way of effortlessly slipping into the role of Geralt made many wonder if he was destined for the part.

Cavill, however, had a different opinion. Henry Cavill once shared his theory of destiny, and how it factored into landing the role of Geralt.

Netflix and CD Projekt Red joined forces two years ago to bring forth WitcherCon. When Josh Horowitz asked Henry Cavill if he thought he was meant for the role, Cavill shared his take on destiny. As per the British actor, one has to unlock many levels to make their destiny happen. So the reason Cavill got the iconic role of Geralt in The Witcher was because he was hitting lots of small goals and putting in the work, instead of just couch-potatoing with pizza. 

Even though this outlook on destiny is certainly more motivating and healthy, Cavill also relentlessly pestered the maker of The Witcher which contributed to him snagging the role. The virtual WitcherCon event made sure to shine a spotlight on both the video game trilogy and the live-action series. The fourth installment of The Witcher game, code-named Polaris, has been one of the most anticipated projects of CD Projekt Red. And the studio has finally shown some promising signs for its future.

The confirmation of The Witcher game’s fourth installment came from the developers in March 2022. Since the announcement, CD Projekt Red has kept details about the development process and the release date under wraps. However, as per CDPR’s Q3 earnings report, approximately 50% of CDPR’s workforce has contributed to the development of Polaris as of October 31. And after the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, the workforce has been only growing further.

As per CDPR’s head, Adam Kiciński, they are bringing on 400 more people to help with the big game coming around mid-2024. Also, instead of using CDPR’s RED engine like before, the fourth game will run on Unreal Engine 5. Just as Cavill’s small contributions got him his destined Geralt role, the gradual developments with Polaris might turn it into a major hit in a few years.
