Henry Cavill is really living in his golden era with all the amazing performances he has been giving us, of late. In a span of a year, the British actor has made his long-awaited return to the DC universe, left his iconic Geralt role, and greeted us as the legendary Sherlock Holmes once again in Enola Holmes 2. Cavill’s portrayal of Sherlock Holmes was a sight for the sore eyes.

Not only did the actor look dashing in his curly-haired, long coat glory, but he brought his charm to the 221B Baker Street detective. Over the years, the legendary detective has become a worshipped statue when it comes to cinema and literature. His stories have been retold again and again, each one just as good as the last one. But despite the numerous retellings, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ modern retelling of the British detective starring Benedict Cumberbatch has managed to leave an unwashable mark on the audience.

Who is the better Sherlock: Henry Cavill or Benedict Cumberbatch?

Cumberbatch’s Sherlock was a series brilliantly created by Gatiss and Moffat. The fact that we got to see the legendary detective in a modern time and setting made things even more remarkable. Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes is set in the 80s, playing in line with the book. But considering how Nancy Springer was writing about Enola Holmes, who at a time when women’s rights movements were only starting, stood up for her beliefs, the 80s setting is understandable.

However, fans strongly feel that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock excels than that of Henry Cavill because of Moriarty. In the BBC version, Moriarty is a psychopath who is obsessed with Sherlock Holmes. Played by Andrew Scott, the villain is a mastermind and a manipulator down to the last nerve.

His only motivation is boredom, which only adds to the threatening factor. Furthermore, in Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, Moriarty was the main villain for most of the first season.

However, in Enola Holmes 2, Moriarty was Lord McIntyre’s secretary named Mira Troy. While her full-fledged plan was dangerous, it never really got time to unravel. Troy was a woman of high intellect who believed that she was far more capable than anyone around her. She was driven by power and not by the sheer need to be a nuisance to Sherlock Holmes.
