Laying down his sword as the Geralt of Rivia, Henry Cavill has officially left The Witcher after three successful seasons. Despite fans’ many protests urging the British actor to stay, he graciously made way for Liam Hemsworth to take his place as the Geralt of Rivia. Initially, the replacement decision was met with mixed reactions, but now accepting the fate, fans are growing curious to see the Australian actor in action.

Considering the recent developments of season 3, a particular aspect of Geralt’s life has made a comeback. Carrying forward the plot, Hemsworth may face challenges in doing justice to his character.

What started in the fifth episode of the first season, Geralt’s relationship with Yennefer has become one of the central themes of the show. Season 2’s development put a damper on their relationship after Yennefer broke his trust and used Ciri to get her powers back. But recently rekindling their romance in Season 3, Geralt finally forgives her. With so much history between the characters, the Australian actor’s entry in Season 4 might come as an abrupt change.

Anya Chalotra as Yennefer opposite Cavill’s Geralt has accumulated its own fanbase as a relationship. Meanwhile, Hemsworth is all set to bring an evolution to the show. But the evolution of a romance with the new face might be awkward, especially since Season 3 fails to establish a reason behind the change in Geralt’s appearance in the first place.

Anya Chalotra’s riveting portrayal of Yennefer has lent undeniable depth to the show. But some fans may not know that the director Sophie Holland chose Chalotra specifically to diversify the cast of the show. Fighting back against the industry’s proclivity for white actors, Holland wanted to bring a change. And fans of the show are sure glad she did.

Proving herself to be the perfect Yennefer, the 27-year-old has done justice to her role. With her last on-screen dialogue alongside Cavill, she brought fans to tears. Fans can only hope that the scenes between her and Hemsworth will be as convincing.
